Ross B. Nelson III, MD

Board Certified in Pain Management and Anesthesiology

A Shreveport native, Dr. Ross Nelson is widely regarded as one of the area’s premier pain management physicians. Having spent most of his life in Shreveport, Nelson recalls riding his bike to and from Southfield School. For high school, Nelson attended boarding school at Phillips Academy Andover and went on to pursue his undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Nelson came home to attend medical school at LSUHSC and would complete his internship at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas, followed by his Anesthesiology Residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. While in residency, Nelson was recognized for his skills with the needle, as well as his warm and caring rapport with patients. His department chair asked if he would stay on for a fellowship in Pain Management. While there, Nelson learned how interventional pain management clinics worked and how to put the patient first. Nelson learned that treating a patient with chronic pain is not a “cookie cutter” treatment plan… as the physician you must take several factors into consideration including the patient’s health life/ lifestyle and their social support structure. After almost 30 years, Nelson still loves getting up every morning and is greatly inspired by the gratitude and success of his patients.

Nelson is happily married to his lovely wife, Lisa. They are the proud parents of two daughters and a son. Nelson is an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoys spending time outdoors. He is a passionate conservationist and has been a lifelong member of Coastal Conservation Association.
